Incumbents Beaten in East
Several incumbents in eastern Uganda have lost their seats to new entrants in the race for NRM party flag bearers. The minister without portfolio, also NRM deputy secretary, Ms Dorothy Hyuha, lost to Ms Celinah Nebanda who scored 46, 323 votes against the minister's 15, 276 votes for Butaleja Woman MP bid. The Butaleja chairman, Mr Richard Waya lost his bid to Mr Joseph Muyonjo after getting 16,548 votes against his rival's 30,527.

Candidate Dies After Losing

U.S. Committed to Addressing HIV/Aids Needs
The dramatic growth in the delivery of health care services throughout Uganda in recent years is a remarkable accomplishment, one in which the United States, through the US President's Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (PEPFAR), plays a key role. In the past year, PEPFAR funded the testing of over a million pregnant Ugandan women as a first step in preventing transmission of HIV to their newborns. As of March this year, over 218,000 Ugandans are receiving antiretroviral treatment, of which 184,000 are directly supported by the American people.

Ezra's Shs1 Billion Dishonoured Cheque Caused His Travel Ban
City businessman Michael Ezra Mulyoowa would not have been the most wanted man by Uganda Revenue Authority had he not issued the agency a dishonoured cheque worth $500,000 (about Shs1.1 billion). According to sources within URA, Ezra attempted to evade paying taxes three times between 2003 and 2008 before he was held and consequently agreed to clear the unpaid taxes.

Elephants Suffer as UWA Top Brass Fight

However, it has been turned on its head in protected areas of the country where the fight among the top brass in the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has led to the death of elephants. Oil Well Licence Set to Expire
The government could take back a major oil field in western Uganda if the exploration licence over it, which expires today, is not renewed. Block 1, in which Heritage Oil Uganda had a 50 per cent stake with Tullow Oil Uganda holding the same size, has some of the largest oil fields that have been discovered near Lake Albert.
